What You Need to Do Before We Arrive
Disconnection is on you — we don’t perform plumbing, electrical, or gas work. Here’s what each appliance type needs before our crew shows up:
- Refrigerators and freezers — empty the food and unplug the unit. If it has an icemaker, shut off the water valve and disconnect the supply line. Defrost is helpful but not required.
- Washers — shut off both hot and cold water valves behind the machine, disconnect the supply hoses, and unplug it.
- Electric dryers — unplug it and disconnect the vent hose.
- Gas dryers — have a licensed plumber shut off and cap the gas line before we arrive. Disconnect the vent hose. We don’t work on active gas lines.
- Gas stoves and ranges — capped gas line required before our crew starts. A licensed plumber handles this.
- Electric stoves and wall ovens — disconnect the power at the breaker or have an electrician disconnect at the unit. Wall ovens need to be unbolted from the cabinet and pulled forward.
- Built-in dishwashers — these need to be fully uninstalled before we arrive: water supply shut off and disconnected, drain line removed, electrical disconnected, and the unit released from its mounting brackets. A plumber or handyman handles that work.
Once the appliance is disconnected and accessible, we handle the heavy part — pulling it out, navigating stairs and tight spaces, loading the truck, and disposing of it responsibly.
Why Refrigerant Handling Matters
Refrigerators, chest freezers, window AC units, and older dehumidifiers all contain refrigerants. These are federally regulated compounds — they cannot be crushed or disposed of in a standard landfill. Facilities that ignore this create illegal environmental liability.
We route refrigerant-containing appliances to certified area processors that use recovery equipment to capture the refrigerant before the unit is scrapped. This complies with EPA Section 608 requirements. From your end, nothing changes — you don’t need to do anything special. It’s handled on our side.
If you’re clearing out a kitchen remodel or replacing multiple appliances at once, see our furniture removal page for anything else coming out of the space. For full-property situations, estate cleanouts and garage cleanouts handle appliances as part of the larger job.
